Legislator support’s county move on charcoal .
The call by Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu to burn lorries ferrying charcoal from her county has elicited thumbs and flak.
The reactive nature saw Transporters in Kiambu county block Nairobi Nakuru highway in what seemed as a sign of dissatisfaction to the Governor’s directive something that has drawn the mwingi central member of parliament Gideon Mulyungi to jump to the defence of Hon Ngilu’ s decision .
Supporting the ban ,Hon Mulyungi stated that it was essential and timely that the ban had to be enforced owing to the depleting forest cover in the county .The legislator also accused some individuals in the security department of aiding the charcoal burners in Kitui county .
” Leo tumepokea habari kwamba kule Thika ,kuna jamii Fulani ambayo wamefunga barabara ,wamefungia watu wakutoka ukambani ,kwa sababu Gavana wetu aliwakataza wao kukata miti ,kununua makaa Na kuenda kuuza ,Nashutumu kama kiongozi na nasema iyo kitu ikome mara moja Na miti yetu Na makaa yetu watuachie maana sisi hatutaenda sehemu nyingine na kukataa miti .” Said Hon Mulyungi.
